Left Margin.

   Enter the left margin from the left edge of the page for this
   printout.  This can range from 0 to 20.

Enter Name of Person for Chart.

   This is the Name of the person who's Chart is being created. This
   will appear in the Header and on all reports. It will also be used to
   find the person's birth in the Birth Data Base system. Press F2 or
   ALT-P to call up a printout of all names existing in the Birth Data
   Base at this time. Some recently added names may not show if the
   "Make Popups" utility hasn't been used recently. If you select from
   this option, The Birth Data Base will automatically read the data
   associated with this name at this time for you. You can also press F4
   or ALT-L to call the Birth Data Base menu at any time in this screen.
   Use F4 or ALT-L to save and edit births for re use at any time.
   Note to Replace a birth on file, the birth must already exist and
   must have been read from the database before editing it.

Date Of Interest.

  Enter the date of interest into these fields. The date must be a
  legal fate, and Must be between 1910 and 1999.

Time Of Interest.

  Enter the time of interest into these fields. The time should be based
  on a 12 Hour Clock. For times between Midnight and 1:00 A.M., either enter
  12 hours & 30 minutes AM on the day just beginning, where the time you
  wanted to enter was 12:30. Also for times between Noon and 1:00 PM enter
  12 hours & 30 minutes PM, if you wanted 12:30.  This should Be In Standard
  Time. Do not subtract or add for daylight time, or adjust to GMT, etc.

Geographic Location.

  Enter the Country, State and Location of interest. Press F2 or ALT-P
  to call up the countries, states and locations in the Location Data Base
  system. Note that recently added entries may not show up if the "Make
  Popups" utility has not been used. If this Country Has No States, entering
  "General" is being used as basic form.  If you are in the Location field,
  and you used the F2 or ALT-P for the location, that location's data will
  be loaded. If you enter a location that is in the Location Data Base,
  but is not on the Popups yet, press F3 or ALT-B for the Location Data
  Base menu, and you can get that record. Use the F3 or ALT-B option to
  save frequently used locations as well. Note that if you wish to edit
  a location's data, you must read it using either the Popup or just by
  getting its data onto the screen before editing.  Otherwise use the
  add function.  Though having the exact location helps, if you are
  within 30 miles or so of the location with a Popup entry, the
  information will be fine.

Longitude & Latitude, Degrees & Minutes.

  Enter The longitude and Latitude of the location of interest. You can
  find this information on a good map or in an atlas. Longitude varies
  from 0 to 180 degrees, and minutes ranges from 0 to 59 minutes. Latitude
  varies from 0 to 90 degrees, and minutes from 0 to 59.  Zero degrees
  longitude is taken to be Greenwich England, and the International Date
  Line.  Zero degrees latitude is the equator.

Selecting Time Zone.

  Select One of the Common Time Zones Available, or Choose "Other" to
  enter Custom GMT information. If you have not chosen "Other" ASTRO will
  set the GMT Offset field using this field and the Special Code field
  as a guide. Set this and Special Code to "Other" to Override them and
  directly enter the information you wish.

Selecting A Special Time Adjustment Code.

  Select on of the Common Special Time Adjustments for the day of interest.
  Refer to An Almanac, Birth Certificate for valid information on this
  topic, since it varies in so many places from standard. You can also
  choose "Other" if you do not find the code that you want. If you have
  chosen other in the above field and you choose other you can directly
  override this setting.

Setting Adjustment to GMT.

  If you load a location in from disk and do not reset the Special Code,
  you will never have to change this. If you have set the Time Zone and
  Special Code fields to the "Other" option, manually enter the GMT offset.
  Otherwise, ASTRO will calculate this value using the Time Zone and Special
  Code field. This varies from -12 hours and 59 minutes to +12 hours and 59
  minutes.  If you have a weird location with conflicting time standards,
  try to get time in GMT which is standard, and set this to 00:00. You can
  press enter here to leave this screen, press F3 or ALT-B To save or
  replace the Birth, F4 or ALT-L to save or replace the location.
     The numbers which you enter into this field is clock time. this is the
  values that you will see in a time zone map. In Some Location references,
  they list various Time Adjustments which may be like 6:48:20 for a city in
  Texas. Don't Enter This time ASTRO makes this calculation. For Example
  California is In the Pacific Time Zone. You would enter 8:00 during
  Standard times and 7:00 in Daylight Savings Time.

  This Function reads a Birth Record based on what is in the name

Tropical or Sidereal Zodiac.

  This Field selects the type of chart to create. Most astrologers in the
  U.S. use the Tropical Zodiac, where in Europe there is some popularity for
  the Sidereal Zodiac. The Sidereal Zodiac option corrects the chart for a
  slight yearly shift that occurs called "Precession". Currently you would
  subtract about 24 degrees from all positions to convert from Tropical to
  Sidereal.  Don't Set this to Sidereal unless You really Need it. It is
  rarely Used except by advanced astrologers.

House Procedure.

  This Field selects the type of House Procedure to use for finding house
  cusps. This is a highly controversial area of interest.
     Most U.S.  Astrologers use the Placidus Method, but the Placidus method
  tends to fail at high latitudes.
     The Koch method is preferred by some, and some consider it highly
  superior, especially for transits and mundane astrology etc. The Equal
  House system is the most simple system but lacks the scientific and
  mathematical basis of fact that the others have.
     The M-House method is similar to the Equal House system with the
  exception that the Midheaven or Medium Coeli (MC) is on a house cusp and
  the ascendant is not. In most house cusp systems the Ascendant is the
  first house cusp and the Midheaven is the ninth house cusp. These will be
  appropriate for High Latitudes.
     The Companus and Regiomontanus Methods are other methods used by
  advanced astrologers.

Main Options.

  These fields allow you to select whether you want to use several main
  options. Most of these options are selected when you choose a basic option
  from the main menu. You can use these to setup a custom default setup for
  the future.

   Find Houses.....Do You wish to determine and show house cusps.  A
      beginner might not. Others probably will.
   Find Aspects....Do You wish to determine and show aspects.
      A Beginner may not and may find them to difficult to understand
      and grasp. But others will want them.
   Summary at End of Report...Do you want to see a report summarizing
      total number of various qualities in your chart.  This is Normally
      done but you can switch it off.
   Print Text In Report....This is pretty self explanatory. Some People
      who do their own delineations may not wish to see information, and may
      wish to do it for themselves, but most users will want it.

Other Options.

    These are a few options which you can also turn on or off.

    Find Extended Aspects...Do you wish to find aspects to your house
       cusps as well as to your other planets and main angles.  Note that
       no text is available for aspects to house cusps. If you select this
       option ASTRO will also find aspects such as "Semi-Sextile", and
       "Semi-Square". Note that there is no text for these aspects. These
       aspects are rather weak aspects and shouldn't have too much impact
       on your chart.
    Miscellaneous Calculations...Do you want ASTRO to calculate a few
       miscellaneous options. The beginner may find these hard to
       understand or follow, but others may demand this.
    Vertex & East Point..........This is a calculation that can be useful
       for astrologers, but its value is not entirely known at this time.
       This is not used but it can be.

Midpoint Options.

  These fields can select various midpoint functions that can be use by
  this program. Midpoints basically are the points that are in between
  two angles, or planets and the relations between them and their aspects.
  They are basically used by advanced astrologers. This Requires the
  Deluxe program to be effective.
  Basic Midpoints.......This option will allow you to generate midpoints
     for only the basic most important midpoints between the moon's nodes
     and between the Midheaven and ascendant etc.
  One Half Midpoints....This option is like Full Midpoints but only prints
     the first half of a midpoint not the midpoint directly across.
  Full Midpoints........This option allows full midpoints. This option
     makes a very long printout and takes up memory and can be confusing
     and hard to follow. One Half Midpoints Minimizes this.
  Midpoints with Aspects...This option adds aspects between the midpoints.
     This can be added to both options above and can generate a lot of
     information when used with the Full one.

Generate Graphics Data?

  This option selects whether the system should generate graphics data

Delete File List and Files in it?

  While you are working a file is kept keeping a list of all the files
  generated while you have been working, effectively keeping all those
  files alive. Normally when you quit the program those files are erased,
  but you can save them for a future session. Note if you are using a
  floppy system this can tie up a lot of floppy space.

Progression Data.

  Years, Months and Days to Progress.
     Enter the Number of Years, Months  and Days to Progress an
     astrological chart.  Years can range from 0 - 99, months can range
     from 0 - 12 and Days can range from 0 - 31. Note this is an offset
     from the birth date, not the date to progress.

  Progression System To Use.
     Select The Progression System to Use. This can be either Secondary,
     Tertiary, or Minor. Secondary is the More common used. The Secondary
     system progresses a chart 1 day for every year of life. The Tertiary
     system progresses a chart 1 Solar day for each Lunar Month (Each Lunar
     Month is approximately 27 days) of life. The Minor system progresses a
     chart 1 Lunar Month for every Solar Year of Life.

Is Birth Time known?

  If the birth time is known within one hour, it can be adjusted by using
  trial and error and other methods. If the birth time is not known, then
  the will be arrived at by using the method below. Parts of the chart
  which are dependent on exact birth time will not be calculated. If the
  birth time is not known, then birth "Rectification" must be done.

Rectification Method

  This is the method to use for birth rectification. This Option selects the
  method used to find the ascendant and house cusps where no accurate birth
  time is known.
     The "Flat Chart" method assumes that your rising sign is 0 degrees, 0
  minutes Aries and sets your cusps based on that. The "Solar Chart" method
  assumes that your rising sign is exactly the same as you sun sign, and
  sets your cusps from that.
     Also available are several other methods which are not automated by
  this program.
     The "Sunrise" method assumes that many people are born at sunrise or
  thereabouts. If you choose to use this method, then you will have to enter
  the sunrise time below. Consult a Farmers Almanac or the like for sunrise
  time for a given time of year.

Time Of Interest

     Enter the time of interest into these fields. The time should be based
  on a 12 Hour Clock. For times between Midnight and 1:00 A.M., either enter
  00 hours & 30 minutes AM on the day just beginning, or enter 12 hours & 30
  minutes pm on the day previous to the day entered, where the time you
  wanted to enter was 12:30. Also for times between Noon and 1:00 PM enter
  00 hours & 30 minutes PM or 12 hours & 30 minutes AM, if you wanted 12:30.

  for daylight time, or adjust to GMT, etc.

Planet Range, Starting and Ending Planets.

     With this option you can select the range of planets to do transits
  for.  This allows you to do transits for the planets you are the most
  interested in. Note that the ending planet must be higher than the

     The "Planets" you can select are: Ascendant, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus,
  Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

     This option allows you to select the spacing between the transits that
  are done. Usually months will be zero and you will just use one or two day
  increments. Though if you are primarily interested in the planets Saturn,

     This option determines whether the disk (usually a floppy) is swapped
  to access the files in this area. Usually with 360K floppies, the answer

  floppies, the answer is generally no. If you are using a hard drive of

Convert Astro File To Ascii Text

   Use this function to convert a file to an ascii text file for word
   processing or telecommunications. Though you could do this with a file
   from the printout function, this will not print out any unprintable
   characters to the file, making it easy to edit. Using this function,
   you select a file and then you can select how the file is printed. You
   can set the text width, destination, and whether the file is opened or
   appended to an already existing one.

   You can convert a file to a number of word processing formats including:
   WordStar 3.x, WordStar 4.x and up, WordPerfect 4.x, WordPerfect 5.x,
   Microsoft Word "Rich Text" (RFT) format, XYWrite, and Ascii. Most of
   these can preserve formatting information for editing.

View Graphics Cartwheel

      Use this function to print out a graphics data file as a graphic
   cartwheel type display. In order to use this function you need either
   a CGA, EGA, or Hercules graphic board with an appropriate monitor.
      Your fonts should be located in the same directory and physical disk
   in the case of floppies as the disk that contains your .TXT and the
   corresponding .NDX files used by ASTRO.
      When you are in the graphics portion of the program, you can get a
   menu by pressing any key. From this menu, select an option either by
   pressing the selection's number key or pressing the character that is
   in parentheses at the end. You can exit the graphics by pressing ESC.
      You can configure the graphics from the options menu, using the
   Graphics Setup function. You can also configure options for what is
   displayed on the graphics screen using the Setup Graphics Options
   function.  These options correspond to the options that you change with
   the menu in the graphics function.
      The Mouse doesn't work in graphics.

   on most dot matrix printers this string sets the line spacing to

    End of First Pass String. In order to get a real sharp crisp dark
    printout, you may want all the graphics image printed twice,
    similar to NLQ printing, which will make the printout a little
    sharper and definitely blacker. In that case this field holds the
    string which will tell the printer to go back to the left margin
    and go down it's smallest spacing increment. On an Epson/IBM
    printer this is 1/216", which also moves the print head back to
    the left margin.  You can also enter <27>$<0><0> which will give you
    no extra spacing between passes. The extra spacing allows the
    printing to fill in the space between the dots on the paper. You
    will also want to answer yes to "Print Two Passes" below. This
    only applies to dot matrix printers. On some Epson Compatibles,

    These fields only apply to EGA and VGA modes. These fields allow you
    to specify the exact color valid for your adapter allowing you to
    customize the colors used. Use the Paltest program to arrive at these
    values.  When using an EGA mode the final values are rounded to the
    previous 21 multiple, i.e. 0, 21, 42, and 63. VGA modes have no such
    restriction.  These values are entered in their red, green and blue
    component parts.

    Background Color.......This is for the general background color

 HP Printer Font. This is the font and size, either cartridge, internal or

 Symbol Set To Use. Use this field to select the proper Symbol Set for the

Print Graphics Cartwheel

     Use this function to print out a graphics data file as a graphic
  cartwheel type display. In order to use this function you need either
  a CGA, EGA, or Hercules graphic board with an appropriate monitor.
     Your fonts should be located in the same directory and physical disk
  in the case of floppies as the disk that contains your .TXT and the
  corresponding .NDX files used by ASTRO.
     This function immediately prints the screen once the graphics display
  is drawn on the screen. You must control the display from the Graphics
  Options function, rather than the graphics menu.
     You can configure the graphics from the options menu, using the
  Graphics Setup function. You also can configure options for what is
  displayed on the graphics screen using the Graphics Options function.
  These options correspond to the options that you change with the menu in
  the graphics function.
